    Non-integrality of some Steinberg modules

We prove that the Steinberg module of the special linear group of a quadratic imaginary number ring which is not Euclidean is not generated by integral apartments. Assuming the generalized Riemann hypothesis, this shows that the Steinberg module of a number ring is generated by integral apartments if and only if the ring is Euclidean. We also construct new cohomology classes in the top dimensional cohomology group of the special linear group of some quadratic imaginary number rings.Comment: 17 pages. Complete recovery from anxiety disorders following Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in children and adolescents: a meta analysis

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is a well-established treatment for childhood anxiety disorders. Meta-analyses have concluded that approximately 60% of children recover following treatment, however these include studies using a broad range of diagnostic indices to assess outcomes including whether children are free of the one anxiety disorder that causes most interference (i.e. the primary anxiety disorder) or whether children are free of all anxiety disorders. We conducted a meta-analysis to establish the efficacy of CBT in terms of absence of all anxiety disorders. Where available we compared this rate to outcomes based on absence of primary disorder. Of 56 published randomized controlled trials, 19 provided data on recovery from all anxiety disorders (n = 635 CBT, n = 450 control participants). There was significant heterogeneity across those studies with available data and full recovery rates varied from 47.6 to 66.4% among children without autistic spectrum conditions (ASC) and 12.2 to 36.7% for children with ASC following treatment, compared to up to 20.6% and 21.3% recovery in waitlist and active treatment comparisons. The lack of consistency in diagnostic outcomes highlights the urgent need for consensus on reporting in future RCTs of childhood anxiety disorders for the meaningful synthesis of data going forwards

One-pot near-ambient temperature syntheses of aryl(difluoroenol) derivatives from trifluoroethanol

Difluoroalkenylzinc reagents prepared from 1-(2’-methoxy-ethoxymethoxy)-2,2,2-trifluoroethane and 1-(N,N-diethylcarbamoyloxy)-2,2,2-trifluoroethane at ice bath temperatures, underwent Negishi coupling with a range of aryl halides in a convenient one pot procedure. While significant differences between the enol acetal and carbamate reagents were revealed, the Negishi protocol compared very favourably with alternative coupling procedures in terms of overall yields from trifluoroethanol

Chandra localization of XTE J1906+090 and discovery of its optical and infrared counterparts

We present the Chandra identification and localization of the transient X-ray source XTE J1906+090 and the discovery of its optical and infrared counterparts. Our analysis of archival Chandra ACIS-I observations of the field found the source approximately 8 away from the position determined earlier with the RXTE PCA. We have confirmed the source identification with timing analysis of the X-ray data, which detected the source spin period of 89.6 s. The best Chandra position for the source is R.A. = 19h04m47491, decl. = +09024140. Subsequently, we performed optical observations of the field around the new location and discovered a coincident optical source with R-band magnitude of 18.7. A search in the Two Micron All Sky Survey catalog revealed an infrared point source with J = 15.2, H = 14.2, and K = 13.5, whose location is also coincident with our Chandra and optical positions. Our results add fresh evidence for a Be/X-ray transient nature for XTE J1906+090

Factorization of correlations in two-dimensional percolation on the plane and torus

Recently, Delfino and Viti have examined the factorization of the three-point density correlation function P_3 at the percolation point in terms of the two-point density correlation functions P_2. According to conformal invariance, this factorization is exact on the infinite plane, such that the ratio R(z_1, z_2, z_3) = P_3(z_1, z_2, z_3) [P_2(z_1, z_2) P_2(z_1, z_3) P_2(z_2, z_3)]^{1/2} is not only universal but also a constant, independent of the z_i, and in fact an operator product expansion (OPE) coefficient. Delfino and Viti analytically calculate its value (1.022013...) for percolation, in agreement with the numerical value 1.022 found previously in a study of R on the conformally equivalent cylinder. In this paper we confirm the factorization on the plane numerically using periodic lattices (tori) of very large size, which locally approximate a plane. We also investigate the general behavior of R on the torus, and find a minimum value of R approx. 1.0132 when the three points are maximally separated. In addition, we present a simplified expression for R on the plane as a function of the SLE parameter kappa.Comment: Small corrections (final version). In press, J. Phys.

Success factors between suppliers and customers in service outsourcing activities

This study examines the relationship between outsourcing motives, supplier-customer relationship and perceived value in non-core service outsourcing. That is, key factors responsible for supplier-customer relationship which provide customer value in service outsourcing is still unclear. A total of 1,757 companies were randomly selected for the survey. 234 valid questionnaires were returned (13.4% response rate). The structural equation method was used to obtain the best fit model. The most significant contribution of this study is that, ‘relationship interaction’ has a greater impact on customer perceived value than ‘relationship quality’ in service outsourcing. That is, customer-supplier ‘relationship interaction’ that enhances communication, cooperation, coordination, conflict resolution, and integration activities rather than ‘relationship quality’ such as loyalty and trust, would exert the greatest effect on perceived customer value
